Taxi Fares On The Rise

A ten percent rise in taxicab fares will take effect nationwide today. The initial fee on the meter will read NIS 8.50, up from NIS 7.70, while in the southern city of Eilat the fare will start at NIS 7.20, up from NIS 6.40.

A ten percent rise in taxicab fares will take effect nationwide today. The initial fee on the meter will read NIS 8.50, up from NIS 7.70, while in the southern city of Eilat the fare will start at NIS 7.20, up from NIS 6.40. The increase in fares reflects the rise in fuel costs. Public bus companies took the lead in increasing fares several weeks ago, when they upped their rates by five percent.
