(Updated Wednesday 10 AM) Following the passing of the Tal Bill in the Knesset plenum yesterday, which legalized army deferments to Yeshiva students, the United Torah Judaism (UTJ) party announced that it would be rejoining the government coalition. The UTJ has been negotiating a return for weeks, and yesterday’s Knesset vote, was the icing on the cake. The Prime Minister had fired the UTJ and Shas party ministers this past May after both parties voted against the government’s emergency economic plan. The Shas ministers were reinstated a week later agreeing to vote with the government on the bill, while the UTJ remained on the outside looking in.
