Ariel (ben Lia) Yered, the 15-month-old toddler who was severely wounded by a Palestinian-fired shell in Atzmonah, Gush Katif, three weeks ago, will begin his rehabilitation process today in the Alyn Hospital in Jerusalem. Prof. Sha\'ul Sofer, head of the Children\'s Emergency Ward in Soroka Hospital in Be\'er Sheva, told Arutz-7 today that Ariel has made immeasurable progress since he originally arrived in critical condition. \"Many people felt that there was little hope he would recover,\" Prof. Sofer said. \"Happily, the situation has improved, but it is gradual. He has not yet returned to full consciousness, but he can now breathe and eat on his own, he is reacting to outside stimuli, and we hope it will continue... Brain damage has occurred, as the shrapnel hit a large portion of his brain. But we hope that, given his age and the fact that he has made as much progress as he has, that other parts of his brain will take over the functioning of the other parts. It will be a long process, and it is very hard to predict what will be in the long term. We need much hope and faith...\"
