The Knesset committee dealing with new arrangements for military exemptions for yeshiva students rejected the controversial Katz Amendment today. That proposal would have mandated two weeks a year of civil guard duty for all yeshiva students. The religious parties, joined today by the Likud, objected to the idea on the grounds that it might have led to longer periods of such service, at the expense of yeshiva study time.
