JERUSALEM - Leading rabbinic scholars, educators, and Jewish communal leaders will be featured at the Orthodox Union’s (OU) inaugural Torah Yerushalayim on Sunday, October 6th 2019. The event, hosted by OU Israel, dedicated in loving memory of David & Norma Fund Z”L by their children, and with the assistance of the Jerusalem Municipality, is expected to draw more than 2,000 men and women of all ages at Jerusalem’s Ramada Hotel for a day of Torah study and to address topics and questions facing the Jewish world today from the perspective of Jewish law and thought.

Based on the success of the OU’s Torah New York, which brings thousands of Jews together for a day of learning in New York, the organization has created a similar program in Israel called Torah Yerushalayim. Torah Yerushalayim is both an outgrowth of the Orthodox Union’s popular Torah New York, the largest event of its kind in North America, as well as one of the signature events celebrating the 40th anniversary of the OU’s presence and impact in Yerushalayim and throughout all of Israel.

The day will feature more than 20 sessions focused on various aspects of the Yamim Noraim, including teshuva and prayer. There will be sessions appropriate for individuals of all backgrounds, from beginner to scholar and every level in between.

Torah Yerushalayim will open with a morning keynote address by Executive Vice President Emeritus of the Orthodox Union Rabbi Dr. Tzvi Hersh Weinreb and will conclude with musical Selichot with Rabbi Shlomo Katz. The blue-ribbon list of scholars teaching sessions throughout the day includes: Rabbi Yitzchak Dovid Grossman, Rabbanit Shani Taragin, Rav Meir Goldwicht, Rabbanit Racheli Fraenkel, Rav Yosef Zvi Rimon and many others.

Topics addressed will include:

  • The Secret of the Ten Days of Teshuva
  • Teshuva: Returning to the Real Self
  • V’Ahavta L’Reyacha Kamocha – Seeing the Good in Others
  • Halacha in the Boardroom – The Interface of Jewish Law and Ethical Business Practices
  • Science, Technology and Contemporary Kashrut – OU Global Kashrut in the 21st Century and Beyond

“Our hope is for Torah Yerushalayim to become the annual Torah learning program unifying our community here in Israel,” said OU Israel Executive Director Rabbi Avi Berman. “We wanted to celebrate our 40th anniversary in a big way and what better way to do so than to have more than two thousand people join us for a day of Torah study.”

OU Israel serves as the Israeli arm of the Orthodox Union (OU). OU Israel is dedicated to strengthening Jewish identity, Torah values and developing a proactive commitment to Jewish continuity in Israeli society. Over the last 40 years, OU Israel has evolved into a thriving organization, engaging more than 100,000 of Israel’s Orthodox Jews as a major source of social and educational services and programs for adults and adolescents throughout the country.
