In a separate incident, IDF troops last night, apprehended a would-be Arab suicide bomber after he opened fire on Border Police in a jeep, near the Israeli Arab town of Umm el-Fahm. While bullets hit the jeep, no one was injured. Border Police returned fire, and the man eventually surrendered.
The Arab, a resident of the PLO-Controlled town of Shechem, had arrived in Um el-Fahm seeking someone willing to transport him to the site of his planned massacre inside the town of Afula. When he could not find anyone willing to serve as an accomplice, he decided to target Border Police instead.
After his apprehension, the Arab led authoritites to an abandoned house, where he had hidden an IDF uniform and to an olive grove where he had disposed of his explosives belt.
Security forces patrolling Israel’s Sharon region, just north of Tel-Aviv, remain on high alert this morning following intelligence warnings indicating that a suicide bomber may be on the way to carry out an attack.
