(Updated Wednesday 8:45 AM) The parole board is meeting at this time to discuss whether or not to release from prison, former cabinet minister and Shas party leader, Aryeh Deri. It is expected that Deri will be freed after serving two-thirds of his three-year sentence for fraud and related charges. If Deri were released he would still have to check in with law enforcement officials until his three-year sentence concludes. It is not yet known if Deri will be returning to the political scene anytime soon. As a result of his time in jail, Deri is not permitted to serve as a member of Knesset for seven years, or as a government minister for ten.
