The Montreal Jewish Federation has earmarked $500,000 to help finance security guards to protect Jerusalem schools, particularly kindergartens, during the upcoming school year. The Montreal Federation chose how to spend their philanthropy dollars following a meeting last month, organized by the Jewish agency, between the heads of a Montreal solidarity mission, and senior Jerusalem police officers. The officers briefed the Canadian leaders on their district’s security needs, and in particular on the need to provide security for schools.

Yesterday, the Jewish Agency informed Jerusalem Mayor Ehud Olmert, and Jerusalem Police Commissioner Mickey Levy, of the decision by the Montreal group to use the funds for school security.

Mr. Jeff Kaye, Director of Financial Resource Development for the Jewish

Agency, says that some of the money would arrive in the coming months

through the United Jewish Communities\' (UJC) Emergency Campaign.
