Mohammad Shtayyeh, the Palestinian Authority (PA) “prime minister”, on Wednesday led the central ceremony in Ramallah marking the 71st anniversary of the “Nakba”, or the “catastrophe” of the establishment of the State of Israel as the Arabs see it.

Speaking at the ceremony, Shtayyeh said that any political settlement proposed by the US administration or any other party that would harm the rights of the "Palestinian people", primarily the establishment of a state with Jerusalem as its capital and the return of the "refugees", will be unacceptable to PA chairman Mahmoud Abbas, the PA leadership, the Palestinian organizations and all the members of the "Palestinian people".

"All the steps that Israel will carry out will not succeed in changing the facts of history, because the facts of history say that this land is our land, and all the measures of Judaization in Jerusalem and the annexation of lands will not divert us from our demand to realize our rights, and we will adhere to the basic principles until the occupation is gone,” he declared.

Shtayyeh pledged to the Palestinian people, the prisoners, the wounded, and the Palestinians in the diaspora to remain loyal to the commitment to the right of return, to the basic principles and to Palestinian legitimacy, headed by Abbas.
