An Israeli truck driver who was injured Tuesday in a work accident during preparations for the Eurovision song contest at the Tel Aviv Expo succumbed to his injuries Wednesday, officials at the Ichilov Medical Center in Tel Aviv said.

On Tuesday, the 66-year-old driver was seriously injured when a piece of lighting equipment fell on him as it was being unloaded.

The driver, a resident of the central Israeli town of Pardes Hannah, was treated at the scene by MDA emergency first responders, before being evacuated to Ichilov.

This morning, officials from Ichilov announced that the driver had passed away.

“Despite the extensive efforts to attempt to resuscitate him, doctors in the intensive care ward were forced to declare his death. The hospital offers its condolences to his family,” Ichilov Medical Center said in a statement Wednesday.

Organizers of the Eurovision show also offered their condolences to the driver's family.

"We are greatly saddened by the death of the driver who was injured this week while unloading a truck with technical equipment in the parking lot of the Eurovision venue in Tel Aviv. Our thoughts and condolences go to his family."

"Our priority is always for the safety and security of everyone involved with the Eurovision Song Contest and, in line with protocol, we are cooperating with the authorities."
