Liberman: 'More America than America'Flash 90

MK Avigdor Liberman, who chairs the Knesset's Yisrael Beytenu party, has promised not to join a government which aims to keep Jewish law, Yediot Aharonot reported.

"We won't join a coalition to make Israel into a state of Jewish law," he told Yediot Aharonot. "We in Yisrael Beytenu have five Knesset seats, while the haredim and Religious Zionists have 22. We believe our job is to stop the one-sided initiatives which are liable to turn the State of Israel into a religious state."

"We're not asking anything new in the coalition negotiations, because we don't want to make it too difficult to form a new right-wing coalition, but we have an obligation to ensure that there won't be any force or extremism."

"A right-wing nationalist coalition, but not a coalition of Jewish law" is the only option, Liberman emphasized. "We're not interested in dragging out negotiations and waiting until the last minute to announce that we won't be joining [the coalition]."

Giving numerous examples of what he called "a haredi monopoly," Liberman summed up his position by emphasizing that "what's more important than talking about recent history is thinking about how to stop the haredi extremism and how to prevent a change in the status quo."
