Students at Jerusalem's famous Mir Yeshiva on Sunday night arrived at their "Beit Menachem" dormitory building to discover that their rooms had been trashed, Kikar Hashabbat reported.

Photos sent to Kikar Hashabbat showed personal items thrown on the floor, broken drawers, and general chaos.

One of the students told the site that up to 3000 NIS ($829) in cash had been stolen.

Israel Police officers arriving at the scene opened an investigation into the incident.

Initial estimates show that the break-in occurred on Friday, the last day of Pesach (Passover), when hardly any of the yeshiva's students were in the building.

Police opened an investigation after a previous break-in, but eventually closed he file.
