Communications Minister Ruby Rivlin has chosen Moti Shklar as the next Director-General of the Second Television and Radio Authority. Shklar, a resident of Ofrah, is the current chairman of the authority. He once headed the religious-Zionist school Maaleh - which trains its students for a career in the radio and television industries - and was nominated by the late Education Minister Zevulun Hammer for the post of Director of Educational Television. HaTzofeh newspaper once described him as \"someone known to have excellent interpersonal skills, and with an ability to bridge the gap and promote tolerance between religious and non-religious Jews. A study of his professional life shows that he has always circulated freely between the two populations.\"

In other related news, the Second Authority adopted a new set of guidelines regarding the broadcasting of programs on Shabbat. The basic thrust is that if a religious person who had a significant role in a particular non-news program asks that it not be broadcast on Shabbat, his request must be honored.
