Two people were killed and two were wounded on Wednesday after a man opened fire on vehicles including a metro bus in Seattle, The Associated Press reported.

Seattle Deputy Police Chief Marc Garth Green said the incident occurred just after 4:00 p.m. local time on Wednesday, when a man approached a driver near the Lake City neighborhood and shot her before firing on a southbound Metro bus.

Green said the driver turned the bus around and drove to a safe place before hitting his alarm button and reporting he was shot. The suspect then approached another motorist and fired, killing that driver.

When police arrived at the scene, the suspect fled in the vehicle and collided with another vehicle nearby, killing that driver.

Police took him into custody after a brief standoff, according to AP.

The motive behind the incident is not yet known. Police said the violence appears to be a random act, but cautioned that the investigation is ongoing.

The female driver, the bus driver and the suspect were taken to a Seattle hospital.
