Leaders of the Jewish Home and the National Union parties decided on Saturday night to run together as one list in the upcoming Knesset elections.
The decision was made at a meeting which took place in the home of Rabbi Haim Druckman, head of Yeshivat Or Etzion and chairman of the Yeshivot and Ulpanot Bnei Akiva and one of the leaders of religious Zionism.
The meeting followed the bombshell announcement by Education Minister Naftali Bennett and Justice Minister Ayelet Shaked that they will be leaving the Jewish Home to form a new party, called “'HaYamin Hachadash” (the New Right).
National Union chairman Uri Ariel said at the conclusion of the meeting that "it was agreed to continue and strengthen religious Zionism by running together.”
“It was also decided to continue the negotiations to accelerate the unification and win the next elections as a united right-wing faction led by a strong religious Zionist leadership. We will continue to lead to many achievements and to properly represent the national-religious public," he added.
Rabbi Druckman released a video statement following the meeting in which he urged voters to support “the one and only” religious Zionist list.
“I call upon the national religious public to support the one and only religious Zionist list. The religious Zionist list is vital to the State of Israel and it is vital that it have a very significant representation in the Knesset,” he said.
