One of the victims of the Gilo bus bombing three days ago was a well-known Jerusalem chiropractor and man of kindness, Dr. Moshe Gottlieb. \"No one even had any idea how many people and institutions he helped,\" said Rabbi Shlomo Rosenbluth of Elazar, a long-time close friend. \"He helped put our synagogue on its feet both financially and spiritually, and it was appropriately full with hundreds of mourners for his funeral. People were crying because they simply loved him. If anyone was close to being a truly righteous person, it was him.\"

Dr. Gottlieb arose very early each morning to prepare to give a daily Mishnah class at 5:30 AM; he taught the class in Yiddish for those who did not understand Hebrew very well. He also taught other classes, and was in fact scheduled to give the weekly Torah portion class to Gilo women this Shabbat. He was killed, with 18 others, by a Palestinian suicide terrorist while on his way to Bnei Brak - where he was due to work with a group of Down Syndrome children and other needy cases. He did this every Tuesday, refusing all payment by saying that this was his \"day of chessed (kindnesses).\"

Dr. Moshe Gottlieb immigrated to Israel with his family from the U.S. 24 years ago, and is survived by his wife Sheila, son, daughter, and 12 grandchildren.

Israel\'s Chief Rabbis Yisrael Meir Lau and Eliyahu Bakshi-Doron will spend this coming Shabbat in Gilo, as a sign of solidarity with the neighborhood that has been so badly hit during this 21-month-old Oslo War.
