A new bill to be signed into law on Wednesday by Minister of Transportation Ephraim Sneh will permit a taxi driver to request to see the identification card of a potential fare before he/she gets into the taxi. The law is intended to protect the driver. The situation until now was that taxi drivers were not permitted to request identification papers from their would-be passengers.
