This morning\'s attempted suicide attack north of Tul Karem occurred just west of where Israel has begun construction of a “security” fence in order to separate Israeli cities from Palestinian areas. Many Israelis are against the construction of the fence in fear that not only will it serve as a future border between Israel and a Palestinian state, but that it will not provide sufficient security. The Women in Green organization held a protest against the fence outside the Knesset in Jerusalem this morning. Women In Green’s Nadia Matar told Arutz-7 yesterday that the construction of \"this political fence is a trick by the Israeli left in order to bring Israel back to the narrow waist of 1967. No fence will bring security. Only the complete defeat and destruction of the enemy will bring us back security.”
The Shas party is reconsidering its position regarding the partition fence. It was originally in favor, but many of its MKs are growing increasingly concerned over the fact that the fence will apparently be built along or very close to the Green Line, indicating that it is likely to become a future border. Shas leader Eli Yeshai will meet with the Yesha Council in the coming days to hear a report on the topic.
In a related item, Defense Minister Binyamin Ben-Eliezer said this morning, \"No one can stop this fence, now that Prime Minister Sharon has given his blessing to its every meter.\" Sharon said that he will convene the security cabinet this Wednesday to determine the exact placement of the partition.
