A shooter killed five people in southern California on Wednesday before killing himself, Reuters reported.

Sheriff Donny Youngblood of Kern County said in the report that the shooter first killed his wife and a man at a trucking company in Bakersfield, before killing another man nearby, and another two men later at a residence.

He explained that the shooter then commandeered a vehicle, killing himself after being confronted by a sheriff’s deputy.

According to the sheriff, authorities were working to figure out “why this started and why so many players involved and the connection because obviously these are not random shootings.”
