Arab terrorists over the weekend carried out attacks on two Yesha (Judea, Samaria, and Gaza) communities murdering three Israelis and injuring seven others.
In the first incident, Arabs, dressed as IDF soldiers, infiltrated the Gush Etzion community of Karmei Tzur early Saturday morning and murdered three Israelis, including a woman who was nine months pregnant. IDF St. Sgt. Eyal Sorek 23, and his wife Yael, who were expecting their first child, are being laid to rest at this time at Jerusalem’s Mount Herzl Military Cemetery. IDF Major (res.) Shalom Mordechai, 35 from Nahariya, who was also murdered in the attack, will be buried this afternoon in the Nahariya cemetery.
At around 2:40 a.m. two Arabs entered the Tzur Shalom section of the community and began firing at residents sleeping in their caravan mobile homes. The automatic gunfire from an M-16 and Kalashnikov assault rifles, used by the Arabs in the attack, easily penetrated the corrugated walls of the homes. An IDF reserve unit responded to the gunfire and killed one of the terrorists but not before the Arabs succeeded in murdering the three Israelis and lightly wounding 5 others.
The second Arab fled to the nearby PLO-controlled town of Halhoul. Troops then entered Halhoul and conducted a house-to-house search for the second suspect and took several Arabs in for questioning. The search continues at this time.
The Tzur Shalom neighborhood had been established in response to the murder of Dr. Shmuel Gillis, a Hadassah Hospital hematologist. Arabs ambushed and murdered Gillis, in February of last year, as he was traveling on a road near Karmei Tzur.
In the second incident, last night at least two Arabs approached the community fence of the northern Shomron community of Yitzhar and opened fire towards caravan mobile homes, which house IDF soldiers. Four soldiers were wounded in the incident, and two are listed in serious condition. The soldiers succeeded in killing two Arabs. A manhunt is underway for a potential third suspect.
