A large majority of the Israeli public objects to the formation of another Palestinian state - especially when the question posed to them includes specifics. A public opinion survey conducted by Smith Research Institute last week shows that when asked a general question about a return to the 1967 borders in return for peace, 56% of Jewish respondents were opposed. But when the question specified that Israel would give up the Golan, the Jordan Valley, and the Old City under such an arrangement, objections skyrocketed to almost 80%. And when the Right of Return was figured in, only 4% of Jews supported the idea. Practically 2/3 of the Jews surveyed said they would oppose a Palestinian state if it were possible to do so.
