Former Minister Yossi Beilin, still a member of the Labor Party, announced last night that he was forming a new left-wing movement named Shachar (Dawn). Beilin said that his movement will include Meretz and other left-wing Knesset Members, including from Labor. Meretz leader MK Yossi Sarid, however, reacted coldly, saying he sees Beilin as an \"important ally\" but calling upon him to leave the Labor Party \"as soon as possible.\"

The chairman of the National Union-Yisrael Beiteinu faction in the Knesset, MK Yuri Stern, pointed out the deep European involvement in internal Israeli politics. “Beilin, who is financed by pro-Palestinian European elements,\" Stern told Arutz-7, \"has turned himself into a foreign agent acting against the critical interests of the state of Israel. Beilin has not denied that he receives funds from the European Union. Stern said that the Knesset is set to vote on a bill, proposed by MK Uri Ariel, outlawing the receipt of funds from foreign states. “Thus,” Stern said, “the gross interference of the European Union and others in the internal affairs of the state of Israel would be halted - and will put a stop to Beilin’s subversion.\"
