Prime Minister Sharon\'s refusal to accept yesterday\'s recommendations by the heads of the IDF and GSS is still resonating with dissonance in some quarters. Chief of Staff Lt.-Gen. Sha\'ul Mofaz and Avi Dichter told the Cabinet yesterday that the best solution to the ongoing terrorism is to take over many PLO-controlled areas for an extended period. Sharon, backed by Defense Minister Binyamin Ben-Eliezer and Foreign Minister Shimon Peres, said that the army is tightly encircling the cities and that this is most effective. MK Tzvi Hendel (National Union-Yisrael Beiteinu) said that once again Sharon and Ben-Eliezer are not \"letting the army win,\" and that \"weakness and lack of leadership have once again taken over the government.\"
National Union co-leader MK Benny Elon gave his opinion on the dispute between Sharon and Mofaz/Dichter: \"Both of those alternatives are only temporary. Peres was right when he said that the main terrorist infrastructure is not the guns; it is rather the hatred and incitement, and we must therefore dismantle the refugee camps once and for all. We must say clearly that the residents must all be transferred, for as long as they remain here and continue their hatred, incitement, and suicide murders, there will not be peace.\"
