The Efrat Local Council is holding a launching ceremony today, Sunday, for an advanced drone designed to help the council and local residents to locate, prevent and monitor infiltrations into the community.

The ceremony takes place amid the sensitive security situation in the Efrat area and its unique geographical environment, together with technological developments allowing for aerial photography of terrain.

The new drone is supposed to enable observation at any given moment and at any point around Efrat's mountain, in order to help secure the town.

Town officials told TPS that this is the first time that a drone intended for civilian use in Israel will be launched.

The officials added that the drone, which costs $37,000, will be awarded to the council by the International Fellowship of Christians and Jews, which is to grant similar drones to the Eshkol Regional Council, Sderot and other communities in the seam zone.

Present at the ceremony are the head of the Efrat Council Oded Revivi and the President of the International Fellowship for Christians and Jews, Rabbi Yechiel Eckstein.
