Former U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry, who brokered the 2015 nuclear deal between Iran and world powers, argued on Tuesday that the intelligence information revealed by Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu about Iran’s nuclear program shows why the deal was necessary.

“Every detail PM Netanyahu presented yesterday was every reason the world came together to apply years of sanctions and negotiate the Iran nuclear agreement - because the threat was real and had to be stopped. It's working! That’s why Israeli security experts are speaking out,” Kerry wrote on Twitter.

Kerry added that prior to the nuclear deal, Iran was able to develop its weapons without any accountability or transparency.

“Blow up the deal and you’re back there tomorrow!” he warned.

In a dramatic televised address Monday evening, Netanyahu revealed to the public information gathered from Iran’s nuclear weapons program, proving that the Tehran regime had lied about its efforts to acquire atomic weapons.

The address comes less than two weeks before the May 12 deadline imposed by President Donald Trump to reimpose sanctions on Iran if no agreement is reached to supplement the existing deal.

Trump praised Netanyahu’s speech, saying it "sends the right message" on Iran's nuclear program, but refused to say whether he would withdraw from the nuclear deal.

Current Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said the intelligence trove was authentic and acknowledged that much of it was new to American experts.

Kerry has repeatedly warned against the U.S. pulling out of the 2015 nuclear deal.

Last November, Kerry warned Congress that it would be "extraordinarily dangerous" for it to reject the 2015 Iran nuclear deal.

He warned in late October that Trump risked driving Iran towards nuclear proliferation if he cancels the deal.
