Over 20,000 Israelis visited the Israel Police's training facility in Bet Shemesh for a festive family-friendly day showcasing Israel's law enforcement capabilities in honor of Independence Day.

Spectators witnessed performances by the K9 dog unit, as well as mounted police, patrol units, special forces, and a presentation heralding the history of the police.

In addition, there were a variety of family-friendly attractions, such as a demonstration involving police helicopters and rescue planes.

Police Commissioner Roni Alsheikh visited the event and met with the throngs of visitors. Referring to the bomb that was discovered on Wednesday in a PA Arab truck passing through the Reihan checkpoint in Samaria, Alsheikh said that police were constantly on alert to prevent terrorism against Israeli citizens.

"At any given moment there are efforts to commit terrorism and damage our security," said the commissioner.

"Only yesterday, the traffic authority, which is directed by the police security division, seized a large bomb that was on its way to being smuggled into the State of Israel. The cargo was handled by the police sappers, thus preventing a significant terrorist attack."

"At the same time, at the Qalandiya crossing, a Gaza resident, was seen acting suspiciously. A police force arrived at him and surprised him, and a knife was found on his body. We will be everywhere and we will provide security for the citizens of Israel to celebrate everywhere."
