Deputy Minister of Public Security Gideon Ezra told Israel Radio this morning that he is waging a tenacious battle to impose restrictions on the movement of vehicles registered to Israeli-Arab citizens. Ezra also said that he rejects the current government policy of granting citizenship to PA residents marrying Israelis, calling for legislation that would compel the Israeli spouse to accept PA citizenship. He explained there are too many cases in which PA residents are marrying Israeli women, or arranging fictitious weddings, to reap the benefits of Israeli citizenship. Such marriages are to be found even among senior PA leaders, including security chief Jibril Rajoub, as was revealed earlier this week.
Knesset Member Ezra, a former deputy director of the GSS (General Security Service, or Shin Bet), explained that PA residents have been taking advantage of cars with Israeli license plates to transport terrorists into Green-Line Israel, as occurred in the case of the recent suicide attack in Rishon LeTzion. In that incident, a PA resident and his Jewish wife assisted the bomber in reaching his target, thanks to their Israeli identification cards. (The woman, who immigrated from the former Soviet Union 11 years ago, maintains that she was unaware that her passenger was on his way to a suicide attack.)
