Pan-European air traffic control agency Eurocontrol on Tuesday warned airlines to exercise caution in the eastern Mediterranean due to the possible launch of air strikes into Syria before the end of the week, Reuters reported.

Eurocontrol said that air-to-ground and/or cruise missiles could be used before or on Friday, and there was a possibility of intermittent disruption of radio navigation equipment.

In a statement, the agency warned that "due consideration needs to be taken when planning flight operations in the Eastern Mediterranean/Nicosia FIR area."

Reuters noted that the US, England, Germany, and France also warned their main air carriers not to travel through Syrian and Lebanese airspace.

Several carriers are already avoiding the region, which includes Cyprus as well, but Egypt and the UAE have not yet made changes to flight paths.

No mention was made in the warning of who the suspected attackers may be.
