Thousands of voters chose to name the new deer born in Jerusalem's Gazelle Valley (Emek Hatzva'im) after Israel's President Reuven Rivlin.

The fawn was born last month, and prior to the Passover holiday, park management set up a voting stand, offering visitors the chance to vote on the fawn's name.

Gazelle Valley Manager Yael Hammerman Solar said, "During the holiday, 15,000 people visited the Valley, and the voting boxes were overflowing. Visitors had a choice of four names: Pesach (Hebrew for Passover), Paroh (Pharaoh), Rubi (after Reuven "Rubi" Rivlin), and Ze'evik. These four names were chosen from those suggested by the public via the park's Facebook page."

"Rubi and Pesach each received a total of 512 votes. Fortunately, there was another birth during the holiday, and we decided to give both names to the new fawns. Hasah's fawn received the name Pesach, and Yohana's fawn received the name Rubi.

"We are happy that the herd of deer is growing at a stable rate, and that the public visiting the site is exposed to animals, meets the deer, and learns about the threats to them. We hope that one day, we will release one of our deer back into the wild."
