Culture and Sport Minister Miri Regev (Likud) approved the Foreign Ministry's request that President Juan Orlando Hernández light a torch at Israel's upcoming Independence Day ceremony.
Hernández will light the torch together with the Foreign Ministry's Agency for International Development Cooperation.
This will be the first time that a leader of a foreign country lights a torch in an Independence Day ceremony.
"Welcome to the President of Honduras," Regev said. "I am happy and proud that the President of Honduras, who is a graduate of the Agency for International Development Cooperation's course, will join the Foreign Ministry's representative in lighting the torch."
"The Foreign Ministry's Agency for International Development Cooperation is one of the things that gives Israel a good name, and it aims to make the world a better place. It brings Israel's wisdom and knowledge to every place on the globe, during good times and times of trouble, for the benefit of the entire world. Israel's purpose is to increase goodness in the world. It makes me happy to know that the Agency will light a torch at Israel's seventieth Independence Day ceremony."
