The long-promised 296 new housing units in the Samaria town of Beit El took a step closer to becoming reality as tenders were finally issued for their construction Wednesday.

Beit El Council Head Shai Alon said in response to the issuing of the tenders that "this is a historic event for Beit El."

"I congratulate the residents of Beit El on this auspicious news on the eve of Passover, with God's help, within a few months, we will begin to develop the area and build the residential buildings," added Alon.

Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu promised that the nearly 300 housing units would be constructed in 2012. However, the units were not even marketed until October 2017.

No construction has taken place in Beit El for over a decade, despite repeated promises of the construction of the same 296 structures.
