The IDF attacked Hamas positions in the Gaza Strip Wednesday morning, in response to a series of recent terrorist infiltrations and the attempted arson of an IDF vehicle near the Gaza border.

Last Saturday, Arab terrorists managed to infiltrate into Israel from the Hamas-ruled Gaza Strip. The terrorists attempted to set an IDF engineering vehicle on fire before IDF forces intervened.

On Tuesday, three terrorists armed with knives and grenades managed to sneak across the border from Gaza into Israel, with plans to attack Israeli security forces. Before they could carry out their planned attack, however, the terrorists were captured and taken for interrogation.

In addition, two Arab terrorists set an engineering platform on fire along the Israel-Gaza frontier overnight Tuesday. The incident occurred near the old Karni Crossing on the border between Gaza and Israel.

In the wake of the repeated provocations on the border, an IDF tank opened fire on two Hamas positions in the northern Gaza Strip.

An IDF spokesperson said Wednesday that during the latest arson attack Tuesday, the two suspects did not cross into Israeli territory.

Israel, the spokesperson said, “takes very seriously any attempt to harm or destroy the security fence system and infrastructure.”
