Demonstrations are being held today, Monday, in Bnei Brak by the haredi Yerushalmi Faction over the detention of a yeshiva student arrested last week for draft dodging.

Dozens of protesters blocked Jabotinsky Street at the corner of Hashomer, while hundreds of protestors blocked the Geha interchange on Route 4 to the south on the other side of the city.

Police are operating at all points of the demonstration, including through the use of armored vehicles, in an attempt to open the roads to traffic.

Police said that "they will act with zero tolerance towards any attempt to disrupt public order and endanger passersby and drivers traveling along traffic arteries."

Draft-age men who bring a letter attesting to their leaning Torah in a yeshiva are exempt from service.
