Four Israelis, including three teenagers, were murdered by terrorist gunfire in two attacks in the Shomron on Tuesday night.
At about 7:15pm, Albert (Avraham) Maloul, 50, and his cousin Herzl, were returning home to the capital after a day\'s work in the Shomron community of Eli, where they operate the swimming pool. As the vehicle headed south on Route 60, between the community of Ofrah and \"T\" Junction, shots rang out near the Arab village of Dir Dubwan. The terrorist fired from the side of the road, hitting the blue sedan with five bullets. Herzl continued driving to the nearby army checkpoint where soldiers began administrating first aid while summoning ambulances from Beit El and Ofrah. A physician pronounced Albert dead on the scene after resuscitation efforts failed. He was hit in his back by the gunfire. Herzl was transported to the Hadassah Hospital trauma unit where he was reported to be in light condition with shrapnel wounds to his back.
The location of the attack is the same where Ofrah resident Aryeh Hirschkovitz, 55, was murdered by terrorist gunfire on 29 January 2001 on his way home from Jerusalem.
Following this latest attack in the area, on the main regional road, Ofrah residents gathered for an emergency town hall meeting to discuss the perilous security situation in the area.
ITAMAR ATTACK
A terrorist infiltrated the Shomron community of Itamar late Tuesday night cutting through the security fence, opening fire in all directions in the area of the yeshiva.
Yeshiva officials praised the quick response of the community\'s security officer and first-response unit. They succeeded in killing the terrorist, bringing the incident to an end and preventing the injuring or killing of others. Three students were killed and two others sustained light injuries. The yeshiva accommodates students between the ages of 14 and 18.
The terrorist opened fire at two students playing soccer near the yeshiva, killing them. Then he opened fire in the yeshiva complex, killing the third victim and wounding others.
The army has declared the area secure, ruling out the possibility of other terrorists remaining at large in Itamar. Yeshiva officials have notified the families of the dead and wounded. Names are not permitted for publication at this time.
