A traditional Megilla reading was held at the White House Thursday morning, as Trump administration officials marked the Purim festival, which celebrates the saving of the Jewish people from annihilation in ancient Persia.

The event was led by President Donald Trump’s Special Representative for International Negotiations Jason Greenblatt, an Orthodox Jew, who recited the blessings before the reading of the Megilla.

“Honored to recite the brachot (blessings) before the reading of the Megilla today at the White House,” Greenblatt tweeted Thursday.

“Blessed to be able to celebrate the holiday of Purim in the White House. Proud to serve the incredible United States of America.”
