Following last night’s Arab suicide bombing outside of a Petach Tikva caf?, that claimed the life of a grandmother and her one-year-old granddaughter, the IDF entered PLO-controlled Jenin in search of wanted terrorists. So far, troops have arrested six Arabs including the area’s Hamas gang commander. When soldiers entered Jenin they were greeted by Arab gunfire. No injuries have been reported to IDF forces.
At the same time, troops last night arrested eight additional Arabs suspected of terrorist activity during ongoing operations in Beit Jalla, Hevron, and Kalkilya. Soldiers also remain in the Bethlehem area in an effort to prevent attacks from being carried out.
24 victims from last nights attack remain hospitalized including a 3-year-old girl who remains in serious condition. Last night she underwent a complicated surgical procedure for her massive abdominal wounds. A total of 13 children were amongst the wounded in the bombing. The al-Aqsa terrorist Brigade of Yasser Arafat’s Fatah movement claimed responsibility for the attack.
After last nights attack, US officials reported that CIA director George Tenet would be postponing his upcoming visit to the region. Tenet was originally scheduled to arrive later this week in order to work with Arab officials to establish a unified PA security force.
