Next week, after three challenging years, 36 students will complete the prestigious Air Force pilot course.

The graduates will complete the 175th IAF pilotcourse

This week, Maj. Gen. Amikam Norkin joined them on their flights. He told his students that "thirty years from now, one of you will stand here and assume the role of commander of the air force."

This coming Wednesday, Major General Norkin will give the cadets their flying wings on the parade ground, when he received his wings exactly thirty years ago as part of his flight course, which was the 113th pilot course.

Data about graduates of the course:

  • 36% of the graduates live in cities, 22% live in local councils, 19% live in moshavim, 14% live in townships, and 9% live in kibbutzim.
  • 69% of the course graduates come from the center of the country, 28% from the north and 3% from the south.
  • 69% of the graduates studied for a science major, 25% combined human and science studies, and 6% chose to study in the humanities.
  • 42% are the eldest children in their family, 47% are the middle children and their families, and 11% are the youngest children in their family. 25% of course graduates are not the first members of their family to receive their flying wings.
  • 58% of the graduates took part in activities in the various youth movements - 57% were in Scouts, 5% were in Hanoar Haoved Vehalomed, 14% were in moshavim, 14% were in Bnei Akiva and 10% were in the agricultural union. 28% of graduates are graduates of a year of service and 11% of graduates are graduates of hesder yeshivas.
  • 28% chose to study for a degree in Mathematics and Computer Science, 22% in Politics and Government, and 19% in Economics and Management.
  • Eight percent of the graduates are IDF veterans who served before the course in another position.
  • 28% of the graduates play musical instruments.
  • 9% of the trainees who started the flight course will meet on Thursday on the parade ground and receive the flying wings.
