Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu praised US ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley for vetoing a Security Council resolution that sought to reverse President Donald Trump's decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and to relocate the US embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.

"Thank you, Ambassador Haley," Netanyahu wrote on his Twitter account. "On Hanukkah, you spoke like a Maccabi. You lit a candle of truth. You dispel the darkness [as they did]. One defeated the many (a play on a phrase in a Hanukkah prayer, ed.).Truth defeated lies. Thank you, President Trump. Thank you, Nikki Haley."

The Palestinian Authority slammed the veto.

A spokesperson for PA chairman Mahmoud Abbas slammed the veto as "unacceptable" and said that it "threatens the stability of the international community because it disrespects it."
