
Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu eulogized Rabbi Aharon Yehuda Leib Shteinman, who passed away Tuesday morning at the age of 104.
Rabbi Shteinman was the leader of the Lithuanian haredi community and one of the most widely respected decisors of Jewish law in the haredi community.
"Rabbi Shteinman was a beacon of spirituality and morality," Prime Minister Netanyahu said in a video address. Everyone who knew him saw the great light that radiated from him: the light of the people of Israel, of the wisdom of Israel, and of the heritage of Israel."
He was one of the greatest posekim [decisors of Jewish law] of our generation, he established generations of students, and they and the rest of our people will always remember his memory."
Hundreds of thousands of mourners came out to attend Rabbi Shteinman's funeral in Bnei Brak Tuesday.
The great rabbi lived a simple, ascetic life, eating minimally, sitting straight without leaning backwards while studying Torah, dwelling in an unrefurbished apartment for decades. This is reflected In his will, where he asked to refrain from eulogizing him since he was undeserving of the praises that would undoubtedly be said, refrain putting up signs announcing his death and using a microphone, also writing that ten people would be enough at his funeral and asking to put only his and his father's name on the tombstone,
