The IDF has finally taken action in Gaza, following a series of recent Palestinian attacks against Jewish targets. The action is basically a repeat of that which the army has done several times in the past: a partition of the entire region into two halves. Previous divisions into north and south helped prevent terrorist activity, but were always removed after various short periods of time.

Palestinian attacks, however, continue in the area. Soldiers in the Rafiach area along the Israel/Egypt border spotted four armed Arabs gathering weapons that had been thrown over the Egyptian border. The soldiers opened fire, and the men fled back into PLO-controlled areas. Also last night, Arabs launched three mortars shells at Jewish communities in Gush Katif, and soldiers were targeted by gunfire near the Gush Katif community of Sufa.

The name of the third victim in Sunday\'s Netanya open-market suicide bombing attack has been released: Victor Tatarinov, 63. A non-Jew who arrived in Israel with his Jewish wife, the two were divorced, and his family in Russia was unable to be located until now. He will be buried in a civil ceremony in Kibbutz Bachan.
