The IDF took some anti-terror actions today in villages near Bethlehem, arresting two wanted terrorist fugitives, and in Tul Karem. Some 15 tanks, with combat helicopter cover, entered the latter city early this morning, bombarded several terrorist targets, and left shortly afterwards.
In Arab attacks today and last night, terrorists targeted an Israeli ambulance making its way to Morag in Gush Katif this morning... PLO gunmen fired at an IDF unit near Dotan, in Shomron... An explosive was detonated against a passing IDF force on the Netzarim highway in Gaza... Arabs threw grenades at an IDF outpost near Rafiach; no one was hurt in these incidents.
Asher Mivtzari of Kfar Darom in Gaza told Arutz-7 of his town\'s experience last night:
\"Two mortar shells fell and exploded in Kfar Darom last night, one very close to our houses. This is becoming a very common occurrence over the past few weeks, and a very dangerous one. Just a few nights ago, another shell landed near a home. The army is doing what it can to respond and prevent these attacks... but the government needs to understand the severity of the situation, and to give the army the ability to fight much more massively against them - for example, here in the neighboring village of Dir el-Balah. Only miracles prevented major catastrophes from happening here last night, and elsewhere in Gush Katif, and the government has to allow the army to take its own initiatives - hopefully before there are casualties here.\"
The recent renewed terrorism wave against Israel that has left 20 dead over the past two weeks is a sign that the Palestinian terrorist infrastructure is beginning to recover from Operation Defensive Shield. So said a senior IDF Intelligence Officer who appeared yesterday before the Knesset Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee. Quoting terrorist documents uncovered during Israel\'s recent anti-terror offensive, he told of grandiose plans to dispatch seven suicide terrorists throughout Israel in one day. Also on the PA terrorism burner was a plan to set off a chain-attack in which several killers would blow themselves up in close proximity one after the other. He told of a sea-based attack that had been thwarted, and said that the terrorists\' motivation is as high as it was before.
Prime Minister Sharon, who appeared at the same forum, said that he agrees to have Syria participate in a future regional summit - on condition that Syria withdraws from Lebanon, stops Iranian arms shipments to Hizbullah, outlaws the 11 terrorist organizations currently operating on its territory, and more.
