Police arrested this morning seven persons from the Golan Druze villages of Majdal Shams and Ein Kinya who are suspected of involvement in events on the Israel-Syria border at the end of last week.
On Friday, dozens of Druze residents of the Israeli Golan Heights gathered near the security fence along the Syrian frontier, as fighting raged in the nearby Druze village of Hader on the Syrian side of the Golan. Some of them rioted, attacked police, caused damage to the security fence, and even broke through the fence to the Syrian side of the border.
Hader, a Druze village aligned with the Assad regime, has close ties with the Druze community in northern Israel. The village came under heavy attack Friday by forces of the Islamist Al Nusra Front, a radical Islamic rebel force which has struggled to gain a foothold in the Syrian side of the Golan for years.
Following a quick investigation, Israel Police this morning arrested seven persons, including two minors from Majdal Shams and Ein Kinya, who are suspected of involvement in the offenses.
They will be brought within the coming day to a hearing at the Kiryat Shmona Magistrate Court for a request to extend their arrests.
