U.S. President Donald Trump on Sunday expressed his condolences to the victims of the mass shooting at a church in Texas.

"May God be w/ the people of Sutherland Springs, Texas. The FBI & law enforcement are on the scene. I am monitoring the situation from Japan," Trump tweeted.

The president and first lady are currently in Japan, where Trump on Sunday began a 12-day tour of Asia.

27 seven people were killed and 25 more were wounded in Sunday's incident, which occurred when a gunman opened fire inside a church, located outside of San Antonio, Texas. A two-year-old child was listed among those wounded in the shooting.

Authorities say that a gunman opened fire at congregants gathered inside the First Baptist Church in Sutherland Springs at approximately 11:30 a.m., half an hour after Sunday church services began.

The gunman was later killed, according to police. A motive is not yet known.
