Some 13,000 people, according to local estimates, took part in a solidarity-with-Israel rally in Johannesburg, South Africa yesterday. Speakers included South African Chief Rabbi Cyril Harris, Israeli MK Eliezer Cohen (Yisrael Beiteinu), and even the black leader of the African Christian Democratic Party. Participants said that the show of solidarity was impressive and moving.
Solidarity missions from abroad continue to arrive in Israel, including several sponsored by United Jewish Communities. Two delegations from Detroit and San Diego were scheduled to arrive tonight for a four-day intensive visit. The groups, numbering 175 participants in total, will visit social organizations, meet with Israelis, and tour their respective Partnership 2000 communities - a project that directly links Jewish communities abroad to Israeli towns and regions. Detroit is linked with Netanya, and San Diego is linked with Sha\'ar HaNegev.
In a unique effort to help victims of terror, the Detroit Federation, together with Hed-Arzi Producers and Maariv newspaper, have funded “There is Still Hope” - a compilation of songs by Israeli musicians. All proceeds from the CD, which has sold over 20,000 copies, are donated to victims of terror and their families.
