President Reuven Rivlin on Wednesday morning held at his residence a working meeting with Australia's Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull, who was visiting Israel as part of the ANZAC commemorations of 100 years since the Battle of Be’er Sheva.

Rivlin welcomed Turnbull to Jerusalem, and noted the warm and close friendship between Israel and Australia.

“You are most welcome, in the name of all the people of Israel we are so pleased that you are here, and we are welcoming you from the bottom of our hearts,” Rivlin said.

Thanking Rivlin, Turnbull said, “We share so much history but above all we share the same values, and the values of freedom and democracy were those for which the Australian Light Horse fought and won 100 years ago.”

“That enabled the creation of the State of Israel, it was a step along the road, and we are proud to have played a part in ensuring the extraordinary achievement, the fulfillment of history here in Israel.”

Rivlin and Turnbull went on to hold an extended discussion during which they spoke about the regional developments, and on the importance of cooperation between the two countries in a range of fields.
