The authorizing authority in the Defense Ministry decided to recognize Rami Nimr Abu Amar, who was shot to death on October 25, 2016 at the Egyptian border as a victim of a hostile action.

The decision was transferred to the Treatment of Victims of Hostilities Division at the National Insurance Institute, and will enable the family to be granted full rights and assistance as victims of hostilities.

Nimer Abu Amar (15), a resident of the Bedouin village of Lakiya, was killed by an Egyptian soldier on the Israeli-Egyptian border while he was performing maintenance work at the security fence on behalf of the Defense Ministry.

"We are all equal in this country and there is no difference between a child from Lakiya and a child from Tel Aviv, Jerusalem, or Haifa," said Reuven Rivlin, who came to console the family after the difficult incident. "We will investigate and follow up the handling of this tragic case."

The father Bassam Abu Amer told Rivlin, "I trust the Defense Ministry to do justice and to investigate the matter, our pain is great, this is our first son.

"We've been working with the defense establishment generation after generation, we will continue to serve the country and work at the borders, we know that the Defense Ministry will investigate and draw lessons," Nimer's uncle Fares Abu Amer told Ynet.
