Suspicions against Interior Minister Aryeh Deri and his wife Yaffa Deri have intensified, the Channel 2 news agency reported Tuesday.
The report quoted a senior law enforcement official who claimed that recent developments in the investigation bolster suspicions against the two.
"The emphasis has shifted to committing ethical offenses," the senior official explained. "These are serious suspicions: Removing funds in significant amounts from Yaffa Deri's organizations to relatives and relatives of the minister."
"No one really understands where the money went, and for what purpose, but one thing is sure: money was spent in large sums, not for the purposes for which the nonprofit organizations were established."
The Interior Minister is suspected of tax offenses, fraud, and breach of trust, and has been interrogated several times in recent months. His wife was also questioned several times on suspicion of involvement in the affair of the Mifalot Simcha organization she heads.
