
Chief of Staff of the Northern Command, Major-General Yoel Strick, ordered that a senior officer in a command position be suspended for an alleged information security offense Thursday.
The officer, a lieutenant colonel, serves in the regular army and is involved in logistics.
Arutz Sheva was informed that the officer has been suspended for two weeks in light of a serious information security offense which occurred under his responsibility during a significant exercise currently under way.
The IDF is very strict about information security procedures, the violation of which can cause significant harm to state security. The IDF is even more cautious and strict about enforcement during large scale exercises.
An IDF spokesperson stated: "Today, (Thursday) September 7th, the commander of the Northern Command, Major-General Yoel Strick, decided to suspend an officer with the rank of lieutenant colonel serving in the command headquarters. The officer was suspended due to a serious offense related to information security procedures during his participation in the Northern Corps exercise. "
The Northern Corps exercise, which is spread over 10 days, is a unique and unprecedented exercise designed to enable the maintenance of a high level of professionalism in the IDF as a whole while training for for unanticipated and changing combat scenarios.
The exercise was called "Ohr Hadagan" in honor of Maj. Gen. (res.) Meir Dagan, the former head of the Mossad, who was the commander of the last Corps exercise in 1998.
