Natan Meir, whose wife Dafna was murdered more than a year and a half ago in a stabbing attack in Otniel south of Hevron, on Wednesday published a Facebook post in which he expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu in particular and to the country's leadership in general.
"It has been a while since I’ve posted anything. We have been working on rebuilding our home. It is good that it is being done away from the limelight. Many times we are also dealing with sorrow and loss. Even now I do not want to say too much except to share what I can no longer keep inside me," Meir wrote.
"Over the last year and a half I have had the privilege of getting to know the Prime Minister and his wife and it pains me to see that their beautiful faces do not come into light. I know a Prime Minister who embraces and repeatedly inquires about how we are doing. I know a Prime Minister who calls us to ask how we are surviving after the disaster we experienced. I know his wife who embraces my children warmly,” he continued.
"I know the Prime Minister as a loving man who comes to us and looks us straight in the eye. I know him as a bereaved brother who supports us and stands with us with all his heart along the way," Meir added.
He went on to write, "Thank you Prime Minister for another comforting and encouraging phone call I received from you last night, just before I went to sleep and you continued to work as usual. Soon a new year will begin. I would like to acknowledge those who deserve it and wholeheartedly thank those who work for us day and night. Thank you to our leaders! Many good people!”
Dafna Meir was murdered by a 15-year-old terrorist who stabbed her as she was painting her home. She fought fiercely to prevent his entering the house and attacking her children. After the attack, he hid behind bushes and escaped the scene.
He was eventually found at his home, taken from his bed and transferred to the IDF investigation unit.
In May, Natan remarried in a private ceremony in Jerusalem.
