MK Oren Hazan (Likud) was indicted Monday morning for the alleged assault of a public servant three years ago in his hometown of Ariel.

The charges were filed by Attorney General Avichai Mandelblit, who also notified the Knesset leadership of the indictment.

According to the indictment, in 2014, prior to his election to the Knesset, Hazan was involved in an altercation with the Director-General of the City of Ariel.

The incident occurred after the municipality issued a foreclosure order on the bank account of Hazan’s mother, Aviva Hazan, over unpaid property taxes, a not unusual recourse of municipalities for those who ignore warnings about outstanding taxes.

Hazan accosted the Director-General, shouted vile epithets at him, threatened him, and demanded he cancel the foreclosure order.

When the Director-General refused to respond, Hazan slammed the Director-General into a handrail, then chased after him, continuing to hurl insults at the official.

Hazan then forced his way into the mayor’s office, where he proceeded to curse and threaten the mayor.

The Likud MK has been charged with assault, insulting a public official, and inappropriate behavior in a public place.
